Im building a 1776. First vw engine. 1970 1600 d.p. 60 hp. Stock crank,90.5,pistons,engal 110 cam, will go with cb performance 1442 heads. Question? ?.... I want to run single 40 weber idf will this combo work well? ? The people that I have talked with say it will.It will also give good fuel mileage.I am not looking to burn the tires off, gust a little more gittyup with a different look than all the duel carb cars out there. I just want some input to see if I am going down the right road.

I have 'heard' from multiple sources that a single IDF is tough to tune right. Duals can be de-tuned to run on a 1776 and you can always up-jet if you go bigger.
I saw a 1776 in HVWs I think with dual 48 IDAs . . .SH*T!!!!!

THAT'S RIGHT GERG!
SINGLE CARBS SUCK'S!!!!..... BUGU68, YOU SHOULD USE A PAIR OF KADRON'S AND I GUARANTEED LOW GAS CONSUMPTION AND ALSO A NICE [glow=red,2,300]PEDAL-TO-THE-METAL [/glow]ACTION ;D

OK still want single.. ???What about going weber IDF 44 doing a little jetting to smaller jets From some i have talked with say single weber 40 would work. Bigger is better, down size the jets. I need a harder sale to go with duel carbs. thanks

I'd suggest going with dual 40mm Kads. They'll perform better than a single 40 IDF will and they're easier to set up, tune, and maintain than a single IDF. You lose a lot of efficency (performance AND mileage) in the manifold runners when you use a single carb, as compared to a dual carb setup. Shorter manifold length means less potential for air/fuel mix issues, vacuum leaks, etc. You need to get a new fuel pump for them, the stock mechanical can't keep up. I'd suggest a rotary. You'll have to do that with a single dual 40 though too. You *might* be able to get away with it since it's only one bowl, but I wouldn't risk it. On a 1776 you'll love dual 40 Kads. Nice power, and plenty of zip. Mileage will be comparable between those and a single 2bbl 40 IDF, though I think you'll find the Dual Kads get slightly better mileage, again because you're traveling a shorter distance with your fuel charge and so lose less to evap and cooling. You can try running a single 44 and jet it down, but you're going to run into the same headaches dialing it in correctly for your motor. I've got a friend who's running downjetted 44's on his motor and he's got nothing but problems. They're constantly fouling out and probably 50% of the time they run like crap. No one's going to try and sell you on any specific setup, that's got to be your call based on what you want to do with the car and your budget. Everyone's going to have opinions, however, so be prepared Speedwell: CB 1442's are the o44's built like this: (pulled from CB's site) 044 MAGNUM with 40 x 35.5mm S/S valves, Dual Super Rev Springs, Chromoly Retainers, & Sure-Grip Locks (Mahle 90.5-92mm bore)

THOSE ARE VERY..............VERY GOOD HEADS ;D BUT, THOSE WILL WORK FOR SHURE WHIT DUAL CARBS, 40'S OR 44'S YOU'LL BETTER USE A PAIR OF KADRON'S THAN THAT SINGLE ONE SPEEDWELL

I've got very well built 1776 with 45drla's,Red Line fuel pump, MSD ign, Berg crank,041 heads, mild cam. Kennedy Stage 1 Clutch,12lb flywheel and running a late transaxle in a 70 Cab. I agree about using duals. Single has such a slower response, It'll drive U CRAZY!
I have a Question!!! Given what I have, what rev limit should I adhere to for this motor? I'm ready to set the curve bushing and spring's. I want all the performance however I don't want to hurt it.... Thanks'
