This is an exhaust system I built for a friends Formula Vee. He runs a 1600cc engine with a PICT34 Brosol carb. His exhaust system wasn't legal for racing. I had to modify a system to fit his car. First I had to cut and reposition the flanges. To do this I used the original 1 1/2" pipe and just cut the flange off. Then I used a welding coupler from JEGS to reconnect the pipe. The goal of the project is to make the system fit and keep each pipe equal length to the other pipes. The coupler is the small ring next to the flange. It prevents the MIG wire from "shooting the gap" and aligns the two parts. Here the coupler is fitted on the flange:The joint is made:If you look down the tube you can see the coupler. This is after welding:I continued cutting an fitting the pipe. I used an 1 1/2" header builder kit from JEGS and the original headers as a source of material. Fitting the pipes:I finished up the system by painting the system with VHT High Temp paint, orange to match the color of the car. Top View: Side View:

Great pictures Gary. Did you build it from scratch? Did you did the same with yours? keep posting pictures of your projects.

The original headers were for a ZINK race car and this one is a Citation with a different layout. I mostly cut and modified the ZINK headers to fit this car. I ended up adding 4 to 6 inches of length to each pipe. I also had to reposition the flanges to get the correct angles. Extra tubing and elbows were taken from a header kit which provided numerous pre-bent tubes of various angles.

Sorry it took so long to reply. I had to look at the can. It is supposed to be 1200 - 2000F with Silca and Ceramic in the paint. "G"

I seen that brand of paint at the local auto part. Thanks Gary for the picture, now I know what to get to paint the J-tubes on my engine.

I have high temp powder coat. It produces a flat finish, but is supposed to be good on exhaust systems. I haven't tested it yet.

My good friend Frank was diagnosed with cancer in October. I worked on his exhaust system as posted in this thread. When his friends found out they all chipped in to get his car ready so he could at least make a few laps on the track. This is his car when it came to my shop the first time. It has a 1600cc engine. After a complete tune up and check out, they painted the car to match his first car a "Grinch". Frank couldn't drive the Grinch he was too big for it. He gave it #69 because that was his age when he bought the car. Once again the car was back in my shop to fix an exhaust leak and for me to adjust the brakes. Twenty-One days after diagnosis my friend and coach Frank Lamb passed away. Here is the photos of the car with the "Grinch" paint job. The car was signed by everyone involved and I was allowed to sign the car as well. Frank called me "The Wizard" and I am proud to sign his car. The car made several laps at the track as pace car for the Formula racers. I think plans are to sell the car to another racer to continue racing with us.

I think someone has already expressed an interest in buying the car. Hopefully it will stay at the track in what-ever form and continue to race with us.
Hopefully the next owner will let me work on it for him. I am the closest thing the Vee guys have to a VW expert.
