On Friday, Yani noticed the clutch pedal felt "different". I thought it was going to be just a little adjustment on the wing nut, so I let it go til today. When I went out there to adjust it before leaving to Nick's Burgers, I got my surprise...
The clutch cable was about to snap!! We were pretty lucky to have made it home that night, but it was a cool little Sunday project!!
For those who haven't done it, I removed the rear driver side wheel and supported the car on jackstands...
Just to have better access to the cable, I also took out the front seat. The cable was so bad I decided just to cut it to make it easier to pull through..
Then I made my way back to the cabin and started to remove the pedal assembly...
Accelerator pedal first, cover off and then I just removed the pin, had to keep an eye on the return spring, not a lot of tension but it sucks to loose springs!! LOL
With the pedal off I removed the brake pedal spring so I would be able to remove the master cylinder lever. I removed the two bolts on the side and the barrel clamp on the accelerator cable, and out came the pedal assembly with the clutch cable attached to the hook...
Out with the old in with the new!! I got this one from Sal at IPC for $7.50 it's German so I was happy, I used grease to help it down the tube!! I think that was one or the hard parts getting it through the tube with very limited access, but you can get it.
Getting the cable to stay took a little work but I just made sure I kept the clutch pedal forward as it went in and that help..
I removed the tube where the cable goes through to the tranny to make it a little easier to get the cable through. When the cable showed it self I reinserted the tube into the bracket making sure the sag was the same VERY important for the sag to remain the same or else you might get some chatter in your pedal!! The pedal assembly just went back together in the cabin..
The wing nut went back on the end of the cable. I adjusted the play on the cable and there she is,, New Clutch cable installed!!
