I saw this posted on the Samba today. The owner is OK.
From the LA Times:
Crash
(Allen J. Schaben / Los Angeles Times / January 18, 2010)
Newport Beach tow operators work to upright Gio Morrelli's 1966 VW van that flipped over during heavy rains on northbound Pacific Coast Highway in Newport Beach. "I was hanging upside down," Morrelli said. "I'm OK by the grace of God. I keep thinking it could have been so much worse."
This is a quote from the owner from The Samba...
"That was me, and that was my bus, i was going about 35 down pch during the worst of a god awful storm squall with pouring rain and winds gusting 25+ knots. There was a spot on the road where silt and mud had washed onto the road along with 2-3 inches of flowing water. Cars in front of me slammed on the brakes, i did the same. I started hydrplaneing and drifting into the lane next to me. A lady in a Lexus accelerated to try to get around me, as i almost smashed into her I over-corrected and went sideways, rolled 1.5 times. Only one window broke, the drivers side, I broke that with my elbow, filling my arm with glass.
Closed my eyes after the first full roll, when I opened them, I was hanging upside down by my belt. Crawled out and got swarmed by people who gave me stuff to stop the bleeding and called the police.
Unfortunatly you are all correct regarding the tow trucks "correction" they did in incorrectly and had to pull it twice, shattering the passengers side and 3 other windows. The roof is pretty much destroyed, the passenger side in scraped and cracked for the "correction" but im alive so I'm certainly not doing any complaining."
