That's cool! When I was a kid, A friend of the family had a split window bus.Don't remember if it was a 15 or a 13 window deluxe but I used to love it when the fam when for a cruise in it. Then a few years later he sold it to buy a newer bus. He bought a bay window deluxe. Nice but it wasn't the same. |

I was already a car guy, actualy a mini truck guy (had a '88 S10 dropped 4"/6'') and wanted to build a old car. Decided on a bug and got it (in '97), started on it and made good headway. Then I met my future wife, and we started a family. Many other things happened and Im finally on my way with the energy and desire to drive it, as long as I can scrape up enough cash.

having a fricking hippy in the family !
bus was the thing back in the day for living , loving and parting !
my 1st was a little john short convertible baja bug it got broadsided by a caddy
2nd was a real 1949 bug 25 hp it got impounded and returned 5 yrs later to be stolen
3rd super beetle horse traded for guns
4 th 63 bus still driving
5th 63 bug still working on it
7 th 72 ghia horse traded for part of that 1936 deuce coupe !
don't know what the 8th will be ?
either thing,manx ,or sand rail !

Had a friend in highschool who had a 70ish beetle with autoshuft ! We went skiing a lot IN that bug ! My first experience with a VW...then in 86 or 87 I inherited a 64 beetle.. LOVED it ! Lost it in the first divorce !
Bought my beloved Ruby in 06 and have been havin the affair of my life with it ever since !

I was married in 1965 while stationed in Germany. My wife and I bought a new Blue VW Beetle that we took our honeymoon in. We covered most of Europe in about 25 days and had a blast driving the VW Sedan. We had that car for a couple of year before a German garbage truck took it out while it was parked on an icy road. My wife dies in August 1987 and I made myself a promise that one day I would again own a 1966 VW Beetle.
