First I want to Thank Andres and Bebo for helping me with the parts needed to complete this project!! Thanks guys!!
Here is the Gas Gage Andres gave me!! It came with his bus!! Looks like we both scored!! LOL
Here is the grill that Bebo gave me!! Thanks again man!!
I like the padded dash look, but there are some thing I like from the early models too, and one of them is the gas Gage!! I didn't want to run the chrome molding across my dash so I modified the gas Gage to meet my needs!!
First I removed the chrome cover, and removed the side bars on the gas gauge...
I then took out the glass to clean and the inside cover plate to change it from the stock color to match the rest of the dash in black!!
Once at that point I opened the gas Gage and made sure everything was in good working condition and greased it all up!! I gave everything a once over with sand paper and got it ready for paint...
Everything was shot with the same black that is pretty consistent in Tony, from the engine to the wheels...
Once dry the Gage was put back together and I began on the install!!
Here is the stock grill on a 68...
I removed it and unfortunately had to cut into the padded dash to allow the Gage to go through...
Then inserted the grill and Gage and made sure everything fit properly...
On a 68 the Gage is in the speed and is an electric Gage, but for some reason I was never able to get mine to work properly. For this reason there is no bracket behind the opening to secure the Gage so I had to make my own from a 1/2" piece of steel, I made it into a C bracket and drilled a hole in the center for the screw to go through!!
and here it is the Gage installed!! Now no reason to run out of gas!! I'm happy with it not very traditional but it fits tony Stock but not Stock look!!
