Everyone can agree that OG VW accessories are a "shoe in"...but is a window swamp cooler an "accessorie" ? Hows bout a set of vintage snow skis ? Or a vintage ice chest ? Lets see what the "general" consensus will be ? Post up your ideas. I'll post up some of MY VW accessories a bit later...lets get this started !

I think a vintage ice chest and vintage snow skis and NOT accessories. Accessories (my opinion) are like a radio, trip speedo, day/night rearview mirror, Albert side mirrors, Hazet round tool kit, full circle hornring, whitewalls, etc. Your car came with a speedo but you want to install a trip speedo. Your car have a cutout for a radio and you want to install one. Your car came with a tool rollup but you want to have a Hazet round tool kit. Your car cam with a side mirror but you want to install hooded Alberts. You get the idea. A swamp cooler might be an accessory because is aircondition.

Vintage ice chest and vintage skis...not accessories ? Sawmp Cooler..accessorie ?Well, that is a matter of opinion and THAT is what I'm lookin for ! Frank, what makes you think that a swamp cooler would be considered an accessorie? Specially since the trip speedo and original radio are definite accessories. I'm just curious as to why you feel a swamp cooler IS. The dictionary definition of "accessorie" is :Something subordinate that aids or adds to a general effect...additional device or object.. As SUCH, the skis and ice chest ARE accessories...but THIS is about peoples "opinion" as to what is or is not an accessorie... Case in point...on MY VW, I have an original GERMAN VW tow hitch...Undeniably an "accessorie"...BUT...would the teardrop trailer ALSO be considered an accessorie ? Or an Eriba Puck ?

Swamp cooler... Well...
For example, not so much in this days but in the 80s and back mybe some of the 90s as well you went to a dealership and if you wanted air conditioner that was an extra accessory. right?
So I'm just going with that and like you said just and opinion.
Like back in the days my vert didn't came with folding shifter but they sold it as an extra assessory. That goes for a clock, fuel gauge, trip speedo, radio, etc. You seen the electric heater unit that goes under the hood. That's an extra assessory.

Well, I didn't say that the dealership offered a swamp cooler as an accessorie. I'm not sure about that. I'm just saying that in general. Now, AAA badges & Safety stars that I don't think they consider an accessory. For example, you joing AAA today and they give you stickers to put on your car. I think the badges were something like that back then. Bug deflectors... I thing they are an accessory (I think).

Although the bug deflector IS a CAR accessorie...would it be considered a VW acessorie ? Much like the dimmer switch pedal...curb feelers...and magnetic pipe holder for the dash. Can you see where this is going ? BTW...I just looked on the samba site and found that in 1965, VWoA advised dealers to PROVIDE customers with a dealer identified license plate frame instead of the usual "sticker" SO...I'm figuring that the dealer lic frames ARE accessories ! SO....does the safety star NOW become an accepted accessorie ?Do breezies count as an accessorie ? I'm not trying to start any arguements...just tryin to determine what everyone feels IS an accessorie . For example: A ski rack IS an accessorie...hows bout the skis ? If the skis are...hows bout the sled and toboggan ? Where do we draw the line ? Swamp cooler vs. under dash air....anything with the VW logo ? or specifically made for a VW like under dash parcel tray.. Thanx for your help here Frank...anybody else have any ideas??

So HERE'S a thought....hows bout ANYTHING ( car related) no matter how obscure....flashlights that atatch to the steering column...curb feelers....lighted fender poles...breezies....AAA badges...safety stars....RIMS ! Just NOT luggage, skis, skate boards, racoon tails. There's an idea....I mean they ARE called accessories !!! Childs car seat...50s car hop trays....drive in theater speakers....on and on...Anybody got any other ideas or comments??

what about the bamboo tray that goes in the front is that an accesory?

Those bamboo trays are "specifically" made for VWs...definitely an accessory without a doubt ! But the question remains: Wouldn't ANY car accessory be considered an "accessory ? Those breezies...the curb feelers...those fuzzy dice... If not, then WHY not ?
