Tell us yer stories of when and where ya broke down and how ya got back on the road again..
While I was travelin from Tempe,Az. on my way back home to Riverside, my alternator lite came on at Chirraco Summit on the 10 fwy.
I had jus filled up with gas and started the car when the lite came on. I pulled over to the side of the road ,near where the trucks park, and opened the deck lid to find the hot wire to the brushes was freyed.
I cut the old connector off and replaced it with a new one.. but the lite still came on..
I broke out my trusty "road kit" and found the new set of brushes I had jus purchased before I left on this trip and installed them...back on the road in 1/2 hr...
A guy in the restaraunt next door came out and told me bout his 66 VW he had years ago and offered the use of his computer and internet if I needed it.. VW people are the BEST !

That's a great story Robert!
I few years ago before I restored my vert, actually it was the day before the first VW Vintage Teffen. I think it was in '07 at the Speedwell Ralley. I was participating on the Ralley cruise and I was about to take the 91fwy when at that stop light my breaks didn't work and I was pumping and pumping them but I wasn't stopping. I used the e-break to stop just before I hit the car in front of me. I continue into the fwy driving Kind a slow and got off at GreenRiver exit. I turned left because there's a gas station there. I parked and started to check under the vert to see if I can find anything wrong with the breaks. At the rear passenger side I notice that the hard breadline looks like it was touching the shock. I crawled under and sure enough, the line was touching the shock and maybe it was like that for so long that the line was filing away till it file a hole and of course the breake fluid was coming out through it every time I hit the breaks. The good thing was that the end of the cruise was at WW and it was about a mile away from where I was so what I did was drive to WW and parked there. Everyone was already there, I was the last one to arrived. I ask One of the guys from WW if I can buy a break line and he told me that they weren't open for business. Tony, the main guy was just behind me and heard me and asked me what happen. I told him the situation and he grabbed a break line, break fluid and even the tool to form the line and gave them to me. When I asked him how much I owe him he said "nothing" he was just glad that nothing worst happend to me and gave me a beer and told me to go and change the line and if I need another beer to come and back. I then went back to my vert and change the line using my Hazet tools from my round tool kit and problem solved!!
Like you say Robert, " VW people are the BEST!"
